Citrus Skillet Shrimp from Hello Fresh App

Citrus Skillet Shrimp Recipe is available from the Hello Fresh App, today we are cooking and reviewing the difficulty level of making this recipe. This recipe made me a little nervous because there are a lot of fresh ingredients I am not used o cooking with but I was still able to pull it off.

All the directions for this recipes are also included in the app, and the estimated time to cook is 30 minutes. We are going to start the timer and see if it really only takes us 30 minutes to prepare.

Step 1. Our app instructed us to bring 1 cup of water to a boil with a pinch of salt. It also has a convenient timer that allows you to cook your rice perfectly.

Step 2. Washing all dry ingredients and slicing the ingredients. Then slicing all the vegetables .

  • 1 sliced poblano pepper
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 red onion sliced
  • 2 sprigs of fresh oregano chopped
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 lb of shrimp
  • orange and lemon were also given to add zest

Step 3. Sauteing the vegetables first then adding the shrimp after the vegetables were fragrant.

Here is a picture of our cooking assistant laying on our feet.

We tried it and it felt like it took less that thirty minutes! We started cooking at 9:50pm an we were done by 10:05 pm. While the rice was cooking, I followed the instructions to make citrus skillet shrimp. While this recipe was easy to follow if you over cooked the poblano peppers or oregano you were sure to get a very bitter aftertaste. I think there should have been more instruction on this but overall we didn’t mess up. The only thing we substituted in the recipe was coconut oil for olive oil. There wasn’t a big difference in taste which is awesome because sometimes all you can taste is coconut oil.

All together I thought the taste was pretty good, I don’t normally cook with olives so that was pretty new for me. While this recipe was out of my comfort zone I am still happy I gave it a go. This recipe inspired me to cook it again but I may try to make a Mexican or Asian version of this one day. I love shrimp and since it came already peeled and de-veined it was super easy to cook. The portion sizes were good for two adults.

Have you tried a new recipe this year? Was is a flop or was it great?
